The fire snapped and crackled, the logs feeding it collapsing among themselves, a cloud of spark and ash flying upward. The noise was far from loud, barely noticeable, but for the prisoner placed in a nearby cage, the sound was agony.
The cat was mostly taken by her infection by now, and some memories and sanity had returned during the night, but a nasty headache had taken hold. The popping and snapping of wood and the constant light from the flame was driving her nuts, and all Margay wanted to do was sleep. Sadly, between the constant hunger gnawing at her middle and the roaring fire, sleep would not come.
Rising to shaky, raw-rubbed paws the cat begins to pace up alongside the door of her enclosure, eyes fixated on the chains wrapped around the bars. In her desperation to maul to blurry blobs that came and went, Margay had left many scratches on the old bars, but nothing that would weaken it to breaking. She hadn't thought of unwrapping or trying to undo the chains until now.
Leaning her weight onto her hind paws, the cat reaches up to fiddle with the chains, claws scraping across the metal at the expense of her hearing. Pushing; pulling, nothing seemed to work as they stayed stubbornly in place. Margay was simply too small to move them; and she had tried slipping through the bars. Oh yeah, she had the headache, bruising, and suspected broken nose to prove that.
Miserably the cat flops onto her flank, allowing her drool to escape and pool around her muzzle as the feline tries to sleep.

herp derp I'll respond even though this is from a few days ago. ^^; Sorry if I make up a bit and it doesn't align with what happened canonically, I wasn't actually there for Margay getting infected so just ignore any parts that don't match up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sitting in the warm firelight, a bright amber gaze kept intent watch over the exotic cat held within one of Caedis' many cages. Kaine's full attention was focused on the cat, ears perked and grin alighting his muzzle. The gleam of the fire off of the Brute's deadly jaws gave the grin a less then sane appearance. He had been waiting many hours now for the prisoner to die. He had been practically shivering with joy during the first stages of the female's infection, to watch her writhe in the pain of the virus taking hold. He had then sat vigil many hours, waiting for the odd feline's breath to still and body to go cold. Alas, Kaine's hopes were dashed as the female managed to survive the beginning stages of the plague, slowly regaining consciousness. She even foolishly attempted escape from her imprisonment, getting a quick rebuttal from her guards. He had almost dashed forward to get a better look at the blood that had leaked from the creature's nose, but was forced to control himself after receiving a knowing glare from the guard. And so the long-limbed male continued to wait. He could be patient. Death could be a slow thing, and sometimes it could be the most fun. To watch a creature slowly deteriorate, before simply fading away like dust in the wind. As the cat (Margret or something?) flopped back down on the ground, the guard nearby took a look at her before padding away. Perhaps a shift change? Either way, the dark backed Brute took his chance. Hastening over to the bone cage in which the cat was imprisoned, Kaine lay down in front of it, grinning face peering at the drooling cat within. "Hey hey, you gonna die 'er what? If ya' are, try ta do it soon, yeah?" He called out to the cat, sounding more like he was asking for a friendly favor than asking someone to die quicker. The Brute pawed at the cage wall in a needy, child-like manner. His unwavering grin, however, was a visible display of the psychosis that characterized the Caedis Tribe. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ugh, that wasn't the best, sorry. Been trying to get back into the RPing groove. ^^;

A pair of rounded ears flick, attention drawn to the brute laying beside the bars. The spotted feline's breath hitches at the questions, hazel eyes flicking open once more as she turns to glare in the direction of his voice.
Her eyes failed to focus on his face- she couldn't find it, Kaine was just a large lump of blurry color, so she simply glanced in his direction as the cat rolled onto her belly. Lips curl back to reveal alarmingly yellow and grey teeth, her gums blackened in spots and patches.
A long, raspy hiss sounds as the feline's fur bristles, ears flattening against her skull. "You're talking makes me remember someone." The cat rasps, expression hateful but voice carrying a great amount of confusion. "You don't say full words. It's like someone else.".
Margay would then pause, thinking over his comments and watching part of the blur- she assumed a leg- moved closer to the cage. The movement caught her attention, and the cat drew closer to the edge of the cage, a small line of drool slipping down her muzzle as she fell into a sort of trance, watching. Oh she was hungry. "J-just do that again." She meows, pleading, more and more saliva slipping until she began openly drooling.
And then it was gone, the cat snapping from the trance as she jerks her head back. "I'm in no hurry." She hisses, tail lashing. "I can't die hungry. Gimme that paw there." She growls, ears flicking towards the base of the blurr, his paws. "Please oh please, I don't like your smile but I think your paws are nice. If you taste good I'll die okay?" She lies, mouth curving into a grin.

Kaine "hm"ed aloud, head tilting slightly. "I'zat so?" He questioned with his trade-mark grin, leaning his face close to the bars, but well out of striking distance. "Ya feelin tha hunger, yeah? Clawin at yur tummy." The blonde giggled madly, listing to the side as he did so.
Regaining composure with shocking swiftness, the brute's amber gaze shone as he stared directly into the jungle-cat's half-crazed eyes. He seemed almost sane and serious as he spoke lowly to the newly infected prisoner. "I 'erd 'bout'ya. Lettin others die for ya; comin here on the promise of trickin other non-plague so we could catch 'em easy."
The tall male could almost be taken as calculated and intelligent from his tone, his tail sweeping slowly behind him and his grin much more toned down. "Death follows ya." He spoke, leaning in even closer, voice barely above a whisper.
Without any other warning, the brute shoved his left paw through the bars, into the cage. "Go on, then. Take ma blood. Live, for jus' a little longer. Keep bringin death afta' ya. I wanna be there ta see every moment of it." The wolf's temporarily sane appearance was gone in an instant, grin fully crazed and reaching the farthest corners of his lips.
Not taking his eyes of the cat, Kaine continued. "Try an take any more than blood though, an I'll be just as happy ta see your dead body instead." He seemed almost excited by the prospect, and would enjoy tearing into the cat should she try and take more than what was offered. Not that it would make too big of a difference, he was an extraordinary fast healer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here, have some Kaine. He will go after her though if she tries to do any lasting damage. XD Feel free to leave a scar, but no broken bones or permanent damage please. ^^ Kaine just figures that if she's stubborn enough to stay alive, than he can appreciate her as being a valuable source of dead and mangled bodies. <3
Margay listened intently, completely still. She had made a deal? Others had died? Oh that was cool. It was like a kitten-hood story! Nearly quivering, the cat would begin to babble. "Oh, I made a deal? That was very smart. I must have been very smart." She meows, nodding enthusiastically. The cat would lean forward as he did, ears flicking forward to catch the whisper. Death? Was she dieing? Margay completely failed to understand what he was trying to say.
She hissed as the paw shot through the bars, eying it carefully. Since the very minute she had woken up from her episodes, she cat had been craving to bite down on flesh, to feel it rip and tear. Vantas and Crystal had been her first targets; but the bars of the cage had prevent Margay from reaching anyone. She had given up, until now.
With a feral shriek the cat would lunge forward, aiming to bite down on the middle of her paw. She would miss his bones, instead trying to bite down on the soft flesh in between. There were few nerves or important things in these places she could damage, but Margay wasn't trying to cripple him, she just wanted to bite, and oh she would. She would bite down and refuse to let go.
The cat; if her bite had landed and Kain didn't find a way to break free; would begin to twist her head, claws lifting as she tries to find a good angle to tear up the flesh between his toes.
The Brute's only reaction to the attack was a twitch of his tail, grin keeping intact without the barest of twitches. She was crazed as she went for the proffered paw, screeching mindlessly.
Kaine let her take hold of his flesh, allowed her to bite down as his blood began to seep from the wound. But, much larger than the cat and in a stable position, he would hold his paw firm, not allowing her to twist or tug it. Simply bite and gnaw like a pup with it's first taste of meat.
He could see as well as feel as she brought her claws up as well to grapple around his paw, small amounts of his fur and flesh being torn from the abused appendage. When he felt that there was enough of his blood on her face and on the floor for her to consume, the dark-furred wolf tugged his paw back with a sudden and forceful jerk.
If she continued her hold as he retracted his paw, he would simply attempt to slam the cat's head with jarring force against the bars of her prison. If all went well, it would be enough to make her let go long enough to fully take back his paw. If not, she would be close enough to where he could take hold of the back of her neck through the bars. Not that he would entirely mind if it came to that, the sight of blood, even if it was his own, was exciting him greatly.
Should the blonde succeed in retrieving his paw, having fed the feral feline a good bit of blood and even some small snippets of meat, Kaine would bring his injured paw up to his face for examination. "Fascinatin..." He would utter lowly, staring at the bloody fore with child-like awe.
The Brute would then focus his amber gaze back at the feline, absentmindedly licking his paw clean as he watched to see what she would do next. "So then, what's yur name, kitty cat? Be nice ta know who I be sharin ma blood with. Not that it really matters, so long as ya keep bringing in the dead." He interupted himself with a fit of giggles, listing from side to side as he did so. "Ma name's Kaine. Though, yur pro'lly too brain dead to understan' me now." The Brute finished in his odd, slur-like accent.
Margay was quite enjoying herself, until the paw jerked away. In her refusal to let go, the cat would be dragged forward several inches as her head was slammed into the bars. She squeals, reeling back as her nose burned, blood trickling from a nostril. The cat lifts a bloody paw to lightly tap it, whining under her breath before shooting an accusatory glare towards Kain.
That wasn't fair! He hadn't warned her! That wasn't fair at all! Pouting, the cat would sit on her haunches, looking quite angry as she lifts a paw and begins to lick the blood off her paw-pad, carefully spitting out the little clumps of fur. Hazel eyes remain focused on Kain as he studied his own paw. The paw she should have gotten. SHE had caught it, SHE had killed it, it was hers!.. Not that Margay had actually killed it; but in her infected mind, that paw was a small, furry animal, and Kain had just stolen her catch.
When the feline finished cleaning one paw, she would place it back on the floor of the cage, lifting the other to work on that. It wasn't long before her clean paw became sticky once more; but at least the cat's headache was slowly dissipating. And she wouldn't be dehydrated long, blood wasn't as good as water, but for someone who hadn't had a drink since the morning she was infected; what, two- three days maybe, it was wonderful.
"Margay." She growls, ears flattening at the giggles. "I don't remember a Kain. You weren't too important right? I don't think so. Well that's good. I'm glad. But what for? I don't remember!" The cat chatters. "Don't remember what? Almost everything. Everything is lost, lost where? Where is it lost?" Margay questions, turning towards Kain as if he were the one who claimed her memories were lost. "WHat is lost? We should find it!" She meows. "But where? Where's where? Where's it gone? Where's what gone? I don't remember."
Face scrunching up in confusion,she pauses her grooming, glancing up at Kain. "What's your name? Do you have one?" She questions, completely forgetting that he had just told ehr.
"It's Kaine, dearie." The Brute repeated, succumbing to another fit of giggles. "Knew you were too of ya rocker to rememba'." Settling down once again, the long-limbed male shifted himself into a more comfortable position. It had been a while since the previous guard had left; perhaps whoever was supposed to replace them had seen him in front of the cage and figured he was taking a turn guarding the newly infected? Either way, it was rather convenient. It was quite boring around camp if there wasn't anyone to kill or no new dead for him to inspect. "Ya don' rememba nuthin then, huh? Not a thing?" Kaine questioned Margay, grin still ever present but much more light and casual. Those new to the plague suffered unpredictable side-effects, though many regained more of themselves after a few days. Not that it did anything to counteract the overall decline in mental state after becoming infected though. Talking to the cat might help her get a little bit of her mind back, or at least stabilize her enough where she could possibly become a full member of the Tribe. Or she could just turn out to be one of the useless, brainless, babblers. In that case, she would only be fit to be used as cruel amusement, a simple toy to be torn apart. He hoped it was the former. Though Kaine could take great joy in tearing something apart, it could often be more fun to be the observer, watching as others killed and then later going to inspect the carnage. And so far as he had heard, this cat could prove useful in providing him such displays, should she regain enough mental stability to follow orders and go on Hunts. Only time would tell. And so far, the cat wasn't too shabby as far as conversation partners went. Not that he was much of a conversationalist himself. Interacting with Margay was... amusing to say the least. And his own laid-back personality assured that there would be not hurt feelings on his side, as he lacked the emotional capacity to feel hurt at another being's words. The exhilarating sight and taste of his own blood was also an added bonus. ------------------------------------------------------
Lol, I wonder when/if we should move this RP in-game. XD
(Well, the Chasm map was still down when I checked at like, 3:00 PM today my time, So we could move it in-game if you'd have no issue rping it in the main map or in scalding or something, because Chasm be swallowing characters.)
Margay nodded, repeating the brute's name over and over under her breath, just to be sure she remembered it. Once she had the canine's name down, she would shift her weight and think, think, think.
Not a thing? Not exactly. How to explain? The cat was visibly frustrated by the question, her fur fluffing up and ears flicking back against her skull. "I remember some things, but not everything? I mean, I remember names, and like, feelings that go with the names? And some smells? But I don't remember actually doing things, and I don't remember everything or everyone or all the names or smells of feelings and it's really, really confusing." The cat chatters.
Should she say what she remembered? Margay wasn't sure. She didn't remember Kain, what if she had known him before, and he didn't like her? What if he was an enemy? Oh, well, whatever. Who cared right?
"I remember two tail." The cat meows. "Um, he smells weird. I like him. And I remember Vantas, he's confusing. I remember Keta, he's sort of weird, I think he talks like you sort of. But different. He's just like you but different completely." She meows, not realizing how badly she was contradicting herself. "I remember the one, um, no name. I don't remember a name. She makes me sad. And then I remember Fawny, she didn't shut up, I remember her voice and it makes me angry." The cat hisses, scraping the ground as she glares towards the brute.
"Did we ever get Fawn? I know she was in a cage, that's how I remember her, did we keep her? Like, is she dead? Did I bite her? I hope I did. Hope hope hope, hope is odd. I like hope. He's odd. Who's odd? Why's odd? What's odd? Odd odd odd, I don't remember who but Odd! What does it mean anyway?"
Margay began pacing the length of the cage as she chatters, completely entranced by her own conversation. "Odd, weird word. odd odd odd. If you say it enough it means nothing! Nu thing. Nuuuu Thing. Weird. Haha!"
Kaine patiently waited, listening as the cat tried to recollect those she had met. Completely ignoring or simply not noticing her derailment of the conversation as she rambled on about the word "odd", the Brute's tail wagged, barking out gleeful laughter as he pinpointed those she spoke about.
"Yup yup, Viceroy Kiseki smells real funny! He tha one that brought ya here, to da Chasm. Sire Vantas has always been pretty clear ta me, I kill who he tells ma to and hurt who tells ma to and stuff. No clue who that Keta is, dun think we got anyone in the Tribe with that name. Le'see here..." He skipped over the one that she had given the least amount of detail for, he had no clue why some girl would make her sad. Instead, the blonde tried to remember why the name Fawn seemed so familiar... It was right there, but who...
"Aha! Fawn! I remember tha' chick! She was a prisoner, but Sire really didn' like 'er at all, no way." The male giggled as he recalled the memories of the night. "Mhm, we all gotsta torture 'er a bit, she sure pissed off Sire somehow. I think he was askin sumthin 'bout some bottle 'er vile 'er sumthin. He wanted to... know what some bottle thingy was. Wasn't listen too close though, naw, I got somethin better! I got 'er tail, I did! Tore it right off, nice and clean like." The Brute's grin was wide, gaze slightly upwards at the pleasant memories. "It was suuuper soft and real nice, so I gave it to my Marquess."
Kaine seemed to deflate a bit, gaze returning to the cat as his grin grew more tame. "Not sure what happened to 'er though. I didn't get ta see 'er corpse, so I suppose she pro'lly escaped." The Brute informed Margay with a non-committal shrug. Who knows, maybe talking to her like this would help her regain herself a bit. At the very least, he may be able to fill some of the spots in her memories.
"Mhmm! All funny, makes my chest hurt!" The cat meows, nodding her head as she paused her pacing. "He's nice, though?" She questions. Margay's only memories of the Viceroy were good ones, so of course she thought of him as nice. "And Vantas, he's scary. I think he ate a puppy's tail. I don't remember that, sortof. Like, I do? But no."
Margay couldn't recall if Keta was in the tribe or not, but at Fawn's mention the feline grins. "Oh goodie! She didn't shut up about things. Don't remember, do remember her voice. It hurts my ears when I think." As if making a point, she reaches up to touch her own rounded ears, whiskers twitching as she sticks out her tongue.
"Awww." The cat whines. "I want her tongue- did someone bite her tongue? I hope so. The tail? OH, a tail. Does everyone loose their tail? I remember someone chewed theirs off. That seems stupid. I like my tail." Margay purrs, lifting her own to brush it along her muzzle. "See? It's all spotty and nice and mine don't take it it's mine! I have not seen another like it. I've not seen another like me. Are there other cats here?"
EYes wide and curious, she leans closer to the bars, gaze hopeful. "Any at all? Spots, no spots? Stripes maybe?"
"I dun know much about the Viceroy, 'cept Sire trusts him." Kaine responded, going back to licking his paw as he pondered Vantas eating a tail. Now that he thought about it, Kaine had never eaten a tail before. He mentally added it to his list of things to try.
The Brute shifted his gaze to the feline's own tail as she spoke about it, forbidding him from taking it. Well, that was a shame, but he supposed that cats used 'em for balance or whatever. Still, he pawed at the air with his uninjured fore, whining in mock-disappointment. "Aw, com'on, not even a nibble? Just the tip?" The tone of his voice alluded to the joking nature of the begging, though he wouldn't mind at all if she did indeed give in.
Returning to his normal manner with a small snicker, Kaine glanced around as he thought of the answer to the cat's last question. "Hm, naw, I dun think we do. I dun think I've seen a cat in the Tribe fer a while." He responded, small grin still never leaving his lips even though there was nothing to be smiling about. It was simply... always there. An ever present grin.
"We got foxes though, thas kinda the same, right?" He asked, not really knowing much about any species of animal.
Margay nodded. She didn't know if Vantas trusted Kiseki or not, she didn't know if she did. She didn't know if she trusted Kaine either, but he seemed nice enough. Well, yeah, he was /insane/, but nice. In a scary sort of way.
"Nope, no touch!" Margay meows, lifting a paw in a half-hearted warning, as if to say /I'll slap!/. She needed her tail, even the tip. Margay used it for simple things such as standing without falling over, the thought of losing it made the infected shudder. Oh, she could lose a leg or two, that's fine, but leave the tail alone.
"Aw, shame." She responds to the brutes answer, whiskers drooping and expression showing her disappointment clearly. Cats might be useless here, they WERE smaller, but why not just one other? Margay didn't like the idea of being alone, but then Kaine mentioned foxes.
"Whatsa fox?" The cat questioned, settling down on her belly and tucking her paws under her chest, like a small kitten awaiting a story. "Do they look like a cat? Are they small? Do they smell weird? I hope they don't smell weird. I don't smell weird. Weird, odd. Odd odd odd."
What was a fox? A fox was... well, a fox. Not like Kaine really knew much about them either, had barely had any contact with them until meeting the Novice, Taere. Of course, there was also Sorae, the Tribe's Witch Doctor, but Kaine only ever saw her briefly around the campsite or when he went to have a look at corpses in her den. She did always seem to have the most fascinating corpses.
Despite having very little knowledge himself, Kaine did his best to answer the cat's question. "Hm, well, ther pretty small. Smaller than dogs, a bit bigger than cats..." The Brute tried to think of other ways to describe the creatures. "Big, amazin, fluffy tails. Real, real soft. Big ears. Pointy noses. Ther jus'... more quiet like. Like a cat. Yeah." His description was vague and disorganized, the blonde simply stating the first things that came to mind.
Obviously not noticing how botched his attempt at explanation was, Kaine flashed Margay a proud grin, as if he had just accomplished something great.
"Yeah, just Taere and tha Docta'. The Docta's pretty old, but she always has the best stuff for me to look at. Corpses an' legs an' eyes and such. Real cool stuff. Taere's ma bestest fluffeh bud eva. He's a Novice, and he has the most awesomest fur ya eva could find. Like, softest in the entiiiire world!" Kaine informed her, tail wagging joyously.
Margay soaks up the information. Foxes sounded nice. Really nice. She wanted to meet one! The cat decided right there and then that she would. The felines tail slowly curls forward, held carefully above the blood that had now clotted as she moves it under her chin, lowering her head to use it as a pillow.
Sniffling, the cat's ears perk. Maybe she could get out? Would Kaine let her out? The thought struck as he talked about his friends and grinned proudly. "Do you think you could let me out, Kaine?" Margay asks with a wide smile. "want to meet your friend and stretch abit, this cage here is very small, and lil ol me can't move the chains."She meows, rising slowly to her paws and turning to poke at the chains. casting a very, very exaggerated sad-face towards the brute.
Margay didn't want to run away, she didn't know anything about the Plague-lands. She couldn't remember the world outside the walls of the dungeon. The small cat just wanted to stretch and run- she had seen some bones in the corner. They were dried and brittle but they looked so nice.
